D2 Summit - Orlando - 2022

Wrapped up the 2021-2022 competitive cheer season last week down in Disneyland at the Varsity D2 Summit.

We’ve been lucky enough to be invited to this event for the past few years, so as a family we’ve combined this competition with our yearly family vacation. The front end of the trip is all cheer. We got up at stupid o’clock on Wednesday for a 7am flight to Orlando and we were at the resort by noon. We spent the rest of Wednesday, as well as Thursday laying low, letting Sophia get prepared for the competition. Friday came and Sophia’s call time was early, needing to be at the ESPN center around 8am and performing at 9:30.

Her team performed one of their best routines of the year, hitting zero and running a clean routine. They left having high hopes that they might make it through to finals.

We came back to the ESPN center for the finals reveal in the early afternoon but luck was not on their side, not making finals and thereby effectively ending another great season.

Once we knew the competition was over for Sophia, we took to the parks and the pools as a family and got in as much fun in the sun as we could until we headed back to Boston on Tuesday.
